RADIOGRAPHIC PRACTICE IV - D, T, US

Purpose of the Subject

“Radiography is constantly undergoing rapid change brought about by new scientific and medical advances and the political climate. It is vital that radiographers react positively to these changes and are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for higher level study.” [http://www.anglia.ac.uk/ruskin/en/home/prospectus/pgpt/medd.html]

This subject is a specialized subject of the practice of the radiography disciplines. It covers the following main themes: advances in radiography, developments of radiography equipment, quality assurance in radiography and new developments in radiographic procedures. Each of these will be tailored to your specific radiography discipline. This subject is also designed to ensure that you are afforded maximum flexibility in your choice of learning areas, which permits radiographers to react to the diverse range of issues relating to modern practice. The objective being that each individual is able to complete an area of study which provides a qualification which reflects your clinical interests and will also be of value to the clinical workplace. It is ideal for you to be working in the relevant clinical area.

The aims of the subject are to provide an opportunity for you, the learners to:

  • increase your evaluative and problem-solving skills and skills of critical thinking so that you are able to apply these skills in the further advancement of the profession.
  • increase your theoretical knowledge using a problem-solving and critical approach.

  • share ideas with other health professionals in order to develop your own intellectual abilities and to aid in the advancement of health care.

Further objectives are that you will:
  • have the skills required to work independently as an expert in your selected major field.
  • follow-up the development in your field and apply new appropriate information to your daily work.
  • further develop radiography work and its administration and training on the basis of research.
  • acquire skills and understanding in the use and application of information technology in the rapidly evolving fields of e-learning and e-health - Professional Development.
  • direct your own learning and acquire independent and life-long learning skills.
  • promote reflective practice.
  • continue with postgraduate studies in Radiography.

Learning outcomes
Assessment methods
1. To develop the skills of communication in order that the student may be able to effectively present oral and written work to audiences and for publication.

2. To review the developments in the sphere of radiation diagnosis and allied imaging modalities in order to integrate the diagnostic procedures specific to clinical history, and develop diagnostic protocols for patient management.

3. To integrate and apply the skills acquired in management principles and practice to the effective management of a radiographic imaging facility.

4. To integrate and plan the systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that a structure, system or component will perform satisfactorily in service.

ASSESSMENTS:

Radiographic Practice IV is a “continuous assessment” subject, which means that there will be NO final or supplementary examination at the end of the year. Instead you will compile a portfolio of case studies, complete a group project and present information in oral and poster format. In addition, you will also undertake several online activities/assessments to support your learning. Each assessment has a specific weighting i.e. each assessment counts a certain % towards your final mark (see Table 4).
